OFFICIAL TITLE:                    School Nutrition Manager

 

SUPERVISOR:                        School Nutrition Program Director and Coordinators,  Principal

 

SALARY RANGE:                    In Accordance with RCBOE Salary Schedules

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:      Work Year – 10 Months

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:  

 

To supervise planning, production and serving of meal meeting federal guidelines to students in a pleasant, sanitary, and efficient manner.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (Asterisk for essential job duties.)

 

  1. Plan and supervise the total School Nutrition Program (SNP) of the assigned school.
  2. Participate in the hiring of new SNP Assistant Managers and Assistants at the assigned school and provide required documentation as requested by the Central Office.
  3. Evaluate job performance of supervised employees. When necessary, document inappropriate or substandard work of employees, and counsel regarding improvement.
  4. Collect Free and Reduced applications, review for completion, and submit properly completed applications to Central Office in a timely manner.
  5. Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  6. Write routine reports and correspondence.
  7. Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  8. Follow Central Office issued menus or get SNP Central Office authorization for changes.
  9. Plan menus, when necessary, which meet federal guidelines and financial restrictions.
  10. Order food, supplies, and equipment necessary to prepare and serve school meals and to clean kitchen area.
  11. Prepare daily schedules of food preparation and cleaning for employees under her/his supervision.
  12. Supervise the production and service of food, and assist where necessary.
  13. Use the kitchen computers to perform cashiering duties, update student information, do all daily and monthly reports, and any other such functions as designated by the SNP Central Office.
  14. Plan and supervise a program for maintaining a clean and sanitary facility for the preparing and serving of food which meets GA Department of Human Resources requirements.
  15. Maintain accurate daily and cumulative records as required by federal, state and local SNP guidelines.
  16. Submit required records and reports to designated offices on specified dates.

 

 

  1. Train and supervise employees regarding the following:
  2. Proper food production techniques.
  3. Food Safety issues.
  4. Use and maintenance of equipment.
  5. Safety issues regarding equipment and cleaning supplies.
  6. Cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  7. Policies and procedures pertaining to School Nutrition and Richmond County Board of Education, as they pertain to School Nutrition employees.
  8. Train at least one other employee in the kitchen how to handle daily operations if the manager should be absent.
  9. Offer guidance, oversee and evaluate new employees in regards to ONE requirement.
  10. Attend SNP manager meetings and all state or locally required training.
  11. Establish and work with a student advisory group to increase understanding of school nutrition programs, to increase program appeal to students, and to solicit ideas for program improvement.
  12. Conduct promotional activities at the school level as directed by the SNP Central Office.
  13. Speak with students, parents and other interested groups to promote the goals of the SNP.
  14. As requested, conduct customer satisfaction surveys and provide recommendations for program improvement to the SNP Central Office.
  15. Support professional food service associations (as specified by the SNP Director) with membership, activity attendance, and encourage employees to do so.
  16. Carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed here or not, as are assigned or required by such employee’s supervisor or other appropriate school personnel, law, board policy, administrative regulation, SNP Policy and Procedure Manual, as are reasonably necessary for the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:  

 

Supervisory and communication skills.  Keyboarding skills and experience with computers.  Knows common weights and measures for food production.  Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:  

 

High school graduate or G.E.D.   Completion or pursuit of completion of core Training-In-Depth classes.  Experience in food service handling or management. 

 

CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:  

 

Must be certified in a food safety training program approved by the Georgia Dept of Human Resources.  SNA Certification or eligible to become certified.  Prefer RCBE SNP Manager Training Program graduate.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Physical demands include stooping, bending, standing, and operating keyboard terminal for extended periods of time.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 

 

Some evening and overtime work may be required.  Personal car use required.
