JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with emphasis in accounting preferred, with minimum of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Business Administration with emphasis in accounting required, with related experience.

 

Certification or Licensure:  N/A

 

Skills:  Possess a working knowledge of payroll policies and procedures and applies them on a daily basis.  Ability to deal courteously and efficiently with a wide variety of people.  Apply fundamental, sound business practices and multi-task on a number of assignments. Must be able to work with numbers accurately. Proficiency with computer, data entry and related applications and check processing system. Ability to maintain and analyze financial data. Ability to supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel. Good decision-making and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

Work Experience:  Minimum three (3) years’ experience in payroll related role required with a Bachelor’s degree or Minimum five

(5) years’ experience in payroll related role required with an Associate’s degree.

PRIMARY DUTY

This position is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director of Payroll with ensuring that payroll changes are made timely and accurately and with supervision of payroll staff to ensure efficient processing of payroll for all employees.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.     Participates cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors and administrators. 

2.     Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.  

3.     Adheres to district policies and administrative rules and regulations. 

4.     Provides prompt, friendly and outstanding customer service through written and verbal communication. 

5.     Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding all financial and personnel matters pertaining to the School System. 

6.     Responds to inquiries regarding payroll procedures for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, assisting employees, taking appropriate action within policy. 

7.     Research discrepancies of payroll information and or documentation for the purpose of ensuring accuracy. 

8.     Work collaboratively with Human Resources, Information Technology and other departments.  

9.     Reconciles TRS, and ERS files monthly and files with the appropriate State agency. 

10.  Understanding of annuities, garnishments, credit union, professional dues, and miscellaneous deductions.  

11.  Proficiency in data processing programs and databases involving wages and benefits. 

12.  Timely payment of employees as services are rendered, on semi-monthly basis. 

13.  Assist with the processing of new hire, personnel action and experience forms. 

14.  Assist in coordinating changes in employee master screens, pay screens, pay related information etc.

15.  Assists in coordinating, facilitating and maintenance of training and materials for new-hires and bookkeepers.

16.  Innovative ideas on streamlining and improving payroll process with the Assistant Director of Payroll.

17.   The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.
