OFFICIAL TITLE:                          Occupational Therapist

 

SUPERVISOR:                                 Director of Special Education

 

SALARY RANGE:                           In Accordance with RCBOE Salary Schedules

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:        Work Year - 10 Months

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

 

To provide occupational therapy services in accordance with student needs.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Evaluates each student using the standardized tests, customized measures, and/or observation to assess the student in areas of cognitive-perceptual motor skills, motor coordination, self-care, muscle strength and range of motion, postural reflexes, needs for adaptive devices and prostheses, and vocational skills. (*)
  2. Documents evaluation results, providing written input to the appropriate persons. (*)
  3. Participates in Placement Committee Meetings. (*)
  4. Uses a team approach to planning and treatment with school personnel, families, and agencies. (*)
  5. Utilizes treatment procedures using meaningful and functional activities that are designed to: (*)
    1. Improve level of functioning in the areas of visual, perceptual, cognitive, physical, and sensory awareness and processing skills
    2. Help student achieve a maximum level of independence in personal care and classroom activities
    3. Help the student acquire homemaking and vocational skills and appropriate work habits through prevocational activities
    4. Instruct the student in the use of and implementing adaptive equipment and devices
  6. Maintains appropriate records and charts of student progress in prescribed Occupational Therapy Programs. (*)
  7. Maintains a close working relationship with parents and school staff for follow through of Occupational Therapy treatment goals in the classroom, making recommendations as needed. (*)
  8. Provides training to the appropriate persons regarding effective methods to aide the mainstreamed special needs student. (*)
  9. Designs and constructs adaptive equipment and devices for the student and/or the classroom. (*)
  10. Orders supplies and materials, and maintains current inventory of supplies for treatment. (*)
  11. Attends staff development and professional seminars and meetings to upgrade or maintain professional skills. (*)
  12. Assists in designing and maintaining an effective daily work schedule to serve the needs of students with disabilities in the school system. (*)
  13. Possesses knowledge of assistive technology, augmentative communication devices, adapted equipment, positioning and accessibility, and barriers. (*)
  14. The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee's supervisor, other school personnel, law, board policy, administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Educational Level: Graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy approved by the Georgia State Board. Certification/Licensing: Current license in Occupation Therapy issued by the State of Georgia. Two years of experience is preferred but not required.

 

Personal Skills: Pleasant personality, cooperative attitude, physical skills and stamina to perform essential duties.

Knowledge of proper lifting techniques

CPR and First Aid certificate preferred but will train

Experience with moderate/severe/profound and students with Autism preferred

 

CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Educational Level: Graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy approved by the Georgia State Board. Certification/Licensing: Current license in Occupation Therapy issued by the State of Georgia.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

 

Lifting of more than 20 lbs may be required at times.

Moving instructional equipment and materials from site to site will be required.

Travel between multiple schools will be required daily.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Must have available private transportation.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated consistent with Richmond County School System evaluation policy.
