OFFICIAL TITLE: Campus Security Officer
SUPERVISOR: Director of School Safety and Security
SALARY RANGE: In accordance with RCSS Salary Schedules
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work Year - 10 month

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Assigned to local school to assist the Public Safety Officer and administration in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for the school community. Assists in screening visitor access to school facilities and other responsibilities related to school security operations. Helps implement emergency code procedures in schools. May assist with peer mediation. Assist with providing security training to facility staff. Receives guidance and assistance from the security team leader on the more difficult or unusual situations.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (Asterisk for essential job duties):
- Monitors the ingress and egress of students and visitors on the assigned campus. (*)
- Patrols school buildings and grounds to prevent loitering and to ensure compliance with school regulations and local laws. (*)
- Checks parking areas and entrances to school direct traffic on campus at peak times.
- Queries visitors on the school premises and assures that such persons report to the school office or leave the buildings or grounds. (*)
- Maintains records of contacts and activities. (*)
- Reports unusual incidents and observations to team leader or appropriate school or legal authorities in accordance with public safety officer policy and procedures. (*)
- Checks hallways, rest rooms, cafeteria, and remote areas of the facility. (*)
- Sends students to classroom, counselor, or other staff members.
- Confers with students regarding improper behavior and attempts to obtain voluntary compliance with school standards. (*)
- Confers with appropriate staff regarding specific incidents.
- Operates security equipment such as two-way radios, metal detectors, etc.
- The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of procedures and practices for ensuring the safety and welfare of others. Knowledge of security
practices and procedures. Must not have been convicted of a felony or some other crime involving moral
turpitude.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma. Associate’s degree desirable. Experience in work involving the welfare and safety of
students or others, preferably in an educational environment.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid state driver’s license or equivalent. First aid and CPR certification or willingness to
acquire within specified time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must have sufficient physical strength to intervene in fights and physically restrain persons; stamina to spend long periods of time walking and standing and to complete security patrol duties. Ability to patrol outdoors in inclement and extreme weather conditions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must agree to work any eight hour shift out of any twenty-four hours, seven days a week. Required to
work overtime including evenings and weekends as assigned by the Public Safety School Director to
provide maximum security coverage with appropriate compensation. Special requirements to include the
ability to lift and move heavy objects (100 lbs. regularly and over 100lbs. as needed) and frequent climbing.
Required to wear the designated security uniforms.

Performance of this job will be evaluated consistent with Richmond County School System evaluation policy.
