JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
*An Associate Degree or higher (from an accredited college)
(GPA of 2.5 or higher/at least a “C” Average)
OR
*60 Semester or 90 Quarter hours (from an accredited college)
(GPA of 2.5 or higher/at least a “C” Average)
OR
*High school diploma/equivalent with a passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment
NOTE: PRAXIS Paraprofessional Assessment will be accepted if taken before March 1, 2007
Certification or Licensure: Must maintain a valid Georgia certificate through professional learning or college coursework. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Skills: Knowledge of, and ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics. Knowledge of, and ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate. Able to effectively use school technology including light typing and e-mailing.
Work Experience: Experience in a licensed childcare environment is preferred.
PRIMARY DUTY:
This position is responsible for providing direct and indirect instruction and service to students with disabilities and their and assist in the evaluation and Individualized Program (IEP) process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides direct/indirect service to children assigned on caseload in a home-based/community-based model as specified in IEP.
2. Prepares and maintains home visit/community-based reports, data sheets, travel logs, and time sheets as instructed by the supervising teacher.
3. Meets on a weekly basis with supervising special education teacher for planning and debriefing sessions to cover lesson planning, student progress evaluation, and maintenance of students’ educational programming.
4. Assists with individual and small groups of students to improve their social behavior, develop self-control and positive concept.
5. Assists students to understand and follow the teacher’s directions by talking to and listening to individual students.
6. Reads and tells stories to students.
7. Assists with attendance records, and prepares audio-visual materials, and duplicate materials.
8. Assists teachers with a selection of materials and equipment and maintenance for students’ educational programming.
9. Assists in keeping office and materials in order and perform non-instructional rotating duties.
10. Assists special education teachers as necessary to carry out their daily functions or activities.
11. The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the RCSS contract.
