TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) month (248 days). Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board. Extended hours beyond the regular school day may be occasionally required.

Education: High School education is required. An associate degree is preferred.
Certification or Licensure: Possession of or willingness to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with required endorsements within three months of employment. Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid.
Skills: Knowledge of school transportation operations, practices, hazards, and safety precautions; knowledge of business practices applicable to transportation; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, parents, and the general public. Good oral and written communication and human relations skills. Have basic computer skills, good interpersonal skills, possess good telephone etiquette, and work well under considerable pressure. Must be able to work independently, accept and process continual input from various sources, sort critical information, maintain logs, and make good operational decisions promptly.
Work Experience: Experience in transportation operations is preferred.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for routing the facilitation of safe and efficient bus transportation operations for Special Education students of the Richmond County School System. Ensures that student data and supporting data systems are used efficiently to create and maintain bus route schedules.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Transportation Administrator in managing the transportation routing program.
- Establishes, enters, and maintains all bus routes and stops throughout the district.
- Develop route rosters, maps, and directions for bus drivers.
- Meets with drivers and bus assistants to discuss updated and/or route adjustments.
- Evaluate and recommend needed changes in the routing process and time frames.
- Serves as primary contact with the routing software vendor.
- Keeps current information on all regular and special education routes on maps.
- Communicate routing information to parents, school administrators, and department personnel.
- Prepares forms for student load counts, receives compiled data from drivers, and prepares a summary of results to be used in route planning.
- Organizes and prioritizes multiple tasks and meets deadlines while working with frequent interruptions and minimum supervision.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with district personnel at all levels.
- Exhibits patience, courtesy, and tact when dealing with others.
- The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, or department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to lift and move heavy objects (100 lbs. regularly and over 100 lbs. as needed). Stand for extended periods of time and complete work requiring considerable physical exertion. Extended exposure to inclement weather when needed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work overtime as required. May be required to attend training courses/programs in order to learn new automotive equipment and repair procedures, update skills, etc.
EVALUATION: Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board policy on evaluation of personnel.
